[Chicago] DePaul's STARTALK Chinese Languag Academy

Student Program:
June 22 - July 22, 2009
  • An intensive Chinese Language Program for Academically Talented high school students
  • 2 college-level courses: Beginning and Intermediate
  • Emphasis on developing Chinese language proficiency in all language skills through studen-centered, real-life performance, cooperative learning, and cultural activities
  • Classes Held Daily from 9am - 3pm
Teacher Training & Professional Development Program:
June 15-July 2, 2990; Extended practicum: July 6-July 22, 2009
  • A graduate-level course on Teaching Chinese emphasizing linguistics, best practices, standard-based pedagogy and assessment, performance-base and student-centered language teaching with a communicative language approach
  • Opportunities for novice teachers to directly apply teaching methods and theories in the STARTALK student courses and participate in a supervised practicum
  • Option for earning graduate credits or continuing professional development credits (CPDUs)
